Welcome to the Women in Computer Science at IUP page. This page highlights some research work projects, presentations and research experience by undergraduate students at IUP under Dr Rose Shumba's mentorship.

Computer Science is a fast growing scientific field in which women could participate on an equal footing right from the start. Unfortunately the trends nationwide already indicate that women are lagging behind.

Dating back to 2004, Dr Shumba has received 3 ACM CREU annual grants to support undergraduate women research. A group of four computer science girls (CREU girls) have each year been working on different computer science research projects. CREU is an acronym for Collaborative Research Experience for Undergraduates in Computer Science and Engineering. CREU is funded by NSF through the ACM CRAW (Computer Research Association's Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research) program.
