| Computer Science Student Awards |
Several scholarships and awards
are given to students through the IUP Computer Science
Department. The Computer Science Alumni and Friends
Scholarships are given to promising incoming freshmen
as incentives to attend IUP; these scholarships
are for $1000 and are funded through the IUP Foundation.
The Howard Tompkins scholarship was established
by Dr. Howard Tompkins, founder of the Computer
Science Department. This scholarship is normally
awarded to a female junior Computer Science major
who is doing excellent work in a Computer Science
program; the scholarship amount varies but is usually
about $1000. The Barry Day Outstanding Computer
Science Student Award was established by Barry Day,
an alumnus of the IUP Computer Science program.
This award is normally given to a senior in recognition
of his/her achievements and contributions to the
department; it is in the amount of $500. The Computer
Science Department also recognizes the achievements
of students that excel in some of our subject areas
(individual courses). Upon recognition, students
are presented with a small award ($25) and have
their names inscribed on a plaque placed outside
the department office. Each of the course awards
is sponsored by a company. Please click on an award
